This week in Book of Mormon class we learned about when the Lamanites invaded king Noah and his people. King Noah was a wicked Nephite king who had just killed Abinadi, a prophet of God at this point in the Book of Mormon. The Lamanites were invading the land and the Nephites were fleeing, being led by King Noah. The Lamanites began to overtake them and slay them. At this point King Noah commanded the men to leave behind their wives and children and run into the forest. These men who were in the forest eventually decided to return to the city and King Noah commanded them not to.
What we talked about in class is how in this event, king Noah can symbolize the adversary. He persuades us to leave what is most important to us and go to the forest. He is set on persuading us to leave our families either by luring us away in sin or persuading us to break our sacred promises. Not all the men running from the Lamanites left their wives and children behind.
Mosiah 19:12
12 Now there were many that would not leave them, but had rather stay and perish with them. And the rest left their wives and their children and fled.
These are the men that we should strive to be like. When the adversary tempts us to leave our families and go into the forest, we can remember who and what is most important to us and stay by them.
